The Gold Coast has been Dr Sam Dowthwaite’s home for all of his life and he’s excited to be back amongst family and friends.
His primary and secondary schooling was undertaken here before completing a Bachelor of Biomedical Science at Griffith University, Gold Coast. Sam then went on to complete medical school at the University of Queensland before undergoing specialist training in ENT / Head and Neck Surgery in various placements throughout QLD. Sam gained his fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons by way of examination in 2011.
Sam practices all aspects of ENT / Head and Neck Surgery and enjoys the amazing diversity of patients in his practice. His sub-specialty interest is head and neck oncology and microvascular reconstructive surgery.
Throughout 2011 and 2012 Sam undertook fellowship training in London, Ontario, Canada where he was the head and neck reconstructive fellow under the supervision of the chairman of the head and neck unit, Professor John Yoo. This experience was invaluable and allowed comprehensive training in all aspects of head and neck oncology and reconstruction, including facial reanimation and transoral robotic surgery.
Sam is proud to have performed the first transoral robotic surgery in the state of QLD and continues to advance robotic programs through both the John Flynn and Greenslopes Private Hospitals.
